Shooting Ranges in the Pikes Peak Area

The Pikes Peak Firearms Coalition strongly encourages all firearm owners to practice regularly with your firearm. Following is a list of shooting ranges and clubs in the Pikes Peak area. It is recommended that you contact the range/club for latest information before going out.

Location: Located Southwest of Specker Avenue. To get to Range 1, take Brown Rd, the street that now connects Titus Blvd. and Butts Rd.  At Butts Rd, turn left and take the Tank Trail behind the motorpool construction site.  Follow the tank trail approximately 1/2 mile Southeast to the Range 1 Sign.  Turn right and go downhill about 500 feet to Range 1.
Cost:
There is no cost for anything connected to using RG1 for active duty, retired, and dependents (Note: open only to active duty and retired military and their dependents).
Hours: Sun up to sun down
Facilities: Any pistol or rifle can be fired except automatic firearms, shotguns, and cannon. This outdoor range has target positions from 25 to 375 yds with shooting tables, chairs, target frames and "bull" targets provided free.
Remarks: Using the range requires that a two person rule be in place at all times. This means that, for safety reasons, at least two people must be on the range for the range to be "open". One person must be a qualified Range Control Officer (responsible for range safety and conduct) who has taken the annual 15-20 min. range class given each Saturday at the Ft. Carson Range Control Office (bldg. 9550). It is best to call Range Control (526-4576) to verify that the range is open, however, the range is normally available 7 days a week from sun up to sun down. Keys and equipment are checked out from the Range Control Office.
Dragon Arms (719) 683-2200 Location: 1250 Dragonman Dr (Go east on Colorado Hwy 94 off US 24 about 2 miles east of Powers Blvd. At second traffic light, turn north on Curtis Road. Dragonman Dr will be first left).
Cost: $10 for all day ($15 for 2 shooters, $20 for 3 shooters) Includes free targets.
Hours: 0930 - 1630 (may be closed on Mondays - call first)
Facilities: Pistol and rifle with benches and rests, skeet, shotgun
Remarks: Has a range officer on duty. Also has a paint ball park open on Saturdays and Sundays - other days by reservation. Can rent fully automatic firearms.
Rampart Range US Forest Service

Location: On Rampart Range Road about 5 miles west of Garden of the Gods (head northwest on Rampart Range Road off of Garden Dr near Balanced Rock in the Garden of the Gods Park in Colorado Springs. The road can be rough but is usually passable by automobiles.)
Cost: No Charge
Hours: Sun up to sun down
Facilities: Pistol and rifle
Remarks: Pack out your trash. Range is not controlled and inexperienced shooters may be present.

Cost: Members and guests only ($100 initiation, $50 annual)

Facilities: There are over a dozen ranges available for use by club members. These include 10 handgun ranges, a 100/200/300 yard high power rifle range, a 100 yard covered practice range, and a sporting clays tower. Affiliated clubs also use part of the facility for special events.
Remarks: The Ben Lomond Gun Club owns and operates a 560 acre shooting facility in Elbert County. The facility is located 45 miles from Castle Rock, 47 miles from Parker, or 43 miles from Colorado Springs.

Membership is through club chapters. Currently, there are chapters in Colorado Springs, Elizabeth, Ellicott, Tri-Lakes (Monument), and Franktown. See BLGC Website for more info.

Cost:  See the WPGC website for details. There is a one-time initiation fee and monthly dues.
Hours:  Tuesday - Saturday: 9:00 am to 8:00 pm, Sunday: 9:00 am to 6:00 pm
Facilities:  This is an indoor range with an initial 9 lanes with expansion capacity for an additional 9 lanes.  There is also classrooms, store, etc.
Remarks:  See the WPGC website for all details.  This is a members-only facility.
Cactus Flats Shooting Range (719) 372-3600 Location:  4612 County Rd 123, Penrose, CO (take road to Brush Hollow Reservoir off Hwy 115 in Penrose)
Cost:  Varies
Hours:  Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday 11:00am to Dusk
Facilities:  Shotgun Ranges (2 new Pat Traps, Singles, Doubles, Wobble Thrower), 25 and 50 yard pistol/rifle ranges
Remarks:  Call to verify hours.
